About the book
Everything worth building starts with a burden. When Nehemiah heard that the walls of Jerusalem lay in ruins, he didn't look away from the rubble — he sat down and wept over it. This book begins with a lament, because that is where every God-given vision is born: in the pain over what is broken.
From Pain to Purpose follows Nehemiah — from cupbearer in a foreign court to the man God used to rebuild a city — through the stages between the moment the vision is born and the moment the wall stands finished: lament, favor, study, mobilization, and perseverance, then completion, ethics, systems, and the return to where it all began. Nine leadership keys, drawn from one rebuilt wall.
Each key is applied where Christian leaders actually lead — personally, in ministry, and professionally, from the pulpit to the boardroom. This is not leadership theory. It is the story of what God does with a surrendered heart that refuses to stay in the rubble: on the other side of the pain is the purpose it was preparing you for.
“Then I said to them, ‘You see the distress that we are in, how Jerusalem lies waste, and its gates are burned with fire. Come and let us build the wall of Jerusalem, that we may no longer be a reproach.’ … So they said, ‘Let us rise up and build.’”Nehemiah 2:17–18 (NKJV)
